But in any case, if either of the disks fails then the whole set fails and the data gets lost.
RAID 1 uses the method of mirroring and so is less prone to data loss. This is due to the reason that the same data is written on two disks, i.e. two disks are made exact copy of each other. So if either of the disks fails then the second one is there to help you out. But in case of natural disasters, there are least chances for the survival of any of the disk.
RAID 0+1, as the name suggests, is the combination of two mentioned above. The data is firstly stripped and then mirrored across the same number of disks. This is the most reliable solution but not applicable for low-budgeted firms due to the expensive nature.
RAID 5 is similar to RAID 0, except from one difference of support to parity write. This parity acts like an error correction which is a combination of the data on the other stripes. Several disks are made to write this parity, which makes it slower than its counterparts. If any of the disk fails then its parity is calculated from the contents of the other disks and the data recovery is done.
Although RAID is proving to be safer than what a single hard disk does but instead they are not completely safe. The natural disaster strike is the keen factor playing in this context.
